I was so happy when my co-worker received one of my paintings as a going away gift. She was really amazed by it!

Basquiat painting sells for $13.5M at NYC auction
5 days ago

NEW YORK (AP) — A painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat has been sold for $13.5 million at an auction in New York City.

The 1982 painting, "Untitled (Boxer)," was consigned to Christie's auction house by Lars Ulrich, drummer for Metallica. Christie's didn't identify the buyer.

The painting shows a black heavyweight fighter with his arms thrust in the air against a white graffiti-filled background. It surpassed its pre-auction estimate of more than $12 million.

The current auction record for a Basquiat is $14.6 million for "Untitled," which sold at Sotheby's last year.

Francis Bacon's "Study for Self-Portrait" didn't sell. Christie's says it had been estimated to sell for about $40 million.

(This version CORRECTS that Basquiat was consigned by Ulrich for sale NOT purchased by him; corrects price to $13.5 million from $14M; corrects overlines.) WOW! To know an African American sold a painting for 13.5 million, even though he's not alive to enjoy it, shows hope for my work if I keep at it! This is inspiring!!

Something funny for your Monday, I like this skit! LMAO
Artist update:
Currently i'm working up an idea to present to gallery owners to get my foot in the dooor. It's been a long time since i've set up an interview with a gallery owner, I think it will be a fun experience. Whether the owner tells me yes or no on displaying my work i'm comfortable with myself to know there's other galleries out there. A little tool that i'm using to help me get in good presentation wise, is http://www.blurb.com, you can create a photo book for cheap online that you can use as a portfolio, which I think is great for artist and photographers. Plus you have a choice of b/w or color and hardback that'll look very professional to whomever your trying to impress. I hope this helps you up & coming artist out their as well as this idea will help me, wish me luck!

Celebrities React to Obama Win!
*Stars were aligned for Barack Obama Tuesday night following the announcement of his victory in the presidential election.

Oprah Winfrey, who has raised money for the Illinois democrat, could not hold back the tears while attending the victory rally in Chicago's Grant Park.

"I was so, so, so excited and then just sort of a calm came over me," she told TV's The Insider. "It feels like it actually is kind of real, so it feels great." Asked what this means for the country, she said, "It means democracy at its finest. It's just the best. We did this. America did this."

Kanye West, whose mother Donda died last November, posted a portrait of the President-elect on his blog with the message: "HI MOM, OBAMA WON!"

Diddy, who turned 39 on Tuesday, delayed his usual birthday bash with the hopes of having a grand birthday/Obama celebration the next night. He gave this promise for the inauguration: "I will definitely DJ at the party for free."

TLC's Chili was quoted by E! Online as saying: "This is amazing. …Never thought I'd live to see this."

Rap mogul Russell Simmons told E!: "The vision of the hip-hop generation and its young people is in full and glorious effect tonight. While many older Americans, who marched and struggled so hard so Senator Obama could run for president of the United States never dared to believe in his candidacy's real potential, young people, particularly the hip-hop community, had faith and their imagination became our reality."

The New York Daily News' Rush & Malloy column collected quotes from celebs around the Big Apple following Obama's announcement as president.

"I'm so excited right now," Ethan Hawke told the paper at Comedy Central's blast at The Park. "I got up at 7:20 this morning, and I voted for Barack. I haven't had this much optimism in a long time. Tonight is historic!"

Studio boss Harvey Weinstein, who hosted two election bashes in years past where he left in tears, said: "It's a great day for America." The movie mogul had invited the Clintons to his fete at Public House, but they'd stayed home to watch the results in Chappaqua.

Actors James Franco, Josh Lucas and Jessica Alba did attend Weinstein's bash, and when someone put Fox News on the tube, Lucas yelled out, "Change the f-----g channel!" Alba told us, "I was surprised that McCain brought race into his speech. I guess he was trying to bring people together."

Model Veronica Webb, at designer Tracey Reese's party at her shop, told the Daily News: "We've just moved to New York, but we voted in Florida, where it really counted."

Amber Lee Ettinger, aka "Obama Girl," burst into tears at the barelypolitical.com party at NY hotspot Haven when her "crush" was named the new president. "This is the day I've been waiting for," she said.

In a video posted on YouTube, Madonna claps her hands and declares, "This is a historical evening! ... We are lucky to be sharing it with each other!"

George Clooney said in a statement: "I congratulate President-elect Obama on his historic victory, and now it's time to begin unifying the country so we can take on the extraordinary challenges that this generation faces."

Lindsay Lohan, who just wrapped a stint on ABC's "Ugly Betty," wrote on her MySpace page: "OBAMA IS OUR PRESIDENT!" and said that everyone who voted, "no matter their choice ... should be proud for voting in the first place."

Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore responded on his Web site, saying, "Who among us is not at a loss for words? Tears pour out. Tears of joy. Tears of relief. A stunning, whopping landslide of hope in a time of deep despair."

E! Online reported Courteney Cox and husband David Arquette hosted an Obama victory party Tuesday night at their Beverly Hills home. Sources say that Jennifer Aniston, Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher were among those in attendance.

I just want to say my heart goes out to Jennifer Hudson and her family in her time of sorrow. I can't even imagine what she's going through, so I pray that God keeps her safe and strong. There's alot of horrible people in this world and they will be judged when his or her time comes. It's such a sad ordeal and I just want to express my deepest simpathy. If anyone wants to leave a comment on the situation, your more than welcome to do so...

"A funny story for Friday Morning"
SOUTH CHARLESTON, West Virginia (AP) — A West Virginia man who police said passed gas and fanned it toward a patrol officer has been charged with battery on a police officer.
Jose A. Cruz, 34, of Clarksburg was pulled over early Tuesday for driving without headlights, police said. According to the criminal complaint, Cruz smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and failed three field sobriety tests before he was handcuffed and taken to a police station for a Breathalyzer test.
As Patrolman T.E. Parsons prepared the machine, Cruz scooted his chair toward Parsons, lifted his leg and “passed gas loudly,” the complaint said.
Cruz, according to the complaint, then fanned the gas toward the officer.
“The gas was very odorous and created contact of an insulting or provoking nature with Patrolman Parsons,” the complaint alleged.
He was also charged with driving under the influence, driving without headlights and two counts of obstruction.
Cruz acknowledged passing gas but said he didn’t move his chair toward the officer nor aim gas at the patrolman. He said he had an upset stomach at the time, but police denied his request to go to the bathroom when he arrived at the station.
“I couldn’t hold it no more,” he said.
He also denied being drunk and uncooperative, as the police complaint alleged. He added he was upset at being prepared for a Breathalyzer test while having an asthma attack.
The police statement said he later resisted being secured for a trip to a hospital that he requested for asthma treatment.
Cruz said the officers thought the gas incident was funny when it happened and laughed about it with him.
“This is ridiculous,” he said. “I could be facing time.”
